Posted by kyro on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 (09:22:54) (106 reads)
We know what you're thinking. What good is a vehicle capable of overlanding to the remotest parts of the planet if there's no place to lay your head when you arrive at your for-the-night destination? Here's a bit of good news for you world travelers: Jeep has just announced a new Trail Edition Camper that will be available as an official Mopar accessory from any Jeep dealership. And it looks just about perfect hooked up behind a new Wrangler.
From what we can see in the high-res image gallery below, these trailers are pop-ups that fold down to a manageable size for towing. Each trailer will sport sleeping arrangements for four with one dedicated queen-size bed (the other sleeping quarters are converted from the table and couch), built-in aluminum cabinet, 110-volt power supply and a "premium canvas enclosure."
Two models will be available, the standard Trail Edition Camper and the (*cue monster-truck-announcer voice*) Extreme Trail Edition Camper. While the basic model gets 32-inch tires and 12 incles of ground clearance, the Extreme Edition ups the ante with 35-inch BFGs and a whopping 15 inches of clearance. Other suitably extreme upgrades include a beefed-up frame and full underbody skid plates.
Pricing starts at $9,995 for the regular model and $11,995 for the Extreme. Full details and specifications can be found after the break, and we highly suggest you check out our high-res images

Jeep News : The Wrangler is Cool (No Kidding)
Posted by kyro on Friday, July 10, 2009 (11:28:58) (663 reads)
Here's a shocker for you - the Wrangler is a cool summer vehicle. At least that's what AutoWeek thinks when it named it one of the 10 coolest vehicles of the summer. I'm pretty sure there was no quantitative analysis of what makes a vehicle "cool" - probably just a nice way to sell some magazines (preaching to the choir). Regardless, it's always nice to get some confirmation.
Chrysler thought the announcement was cool enough to warrant putting it in this week's edition of "Under the Pentastar".

Jeep News : 2007 Military Jeep TJ T1
Posted by kyro on Saturday, March 07, 2009 (06:39:33) (7023 reads)
Jeep purists lust for the T1, an extended-wheelbase TJ powered by the Liberty's VM 2.8L diesel. Unfortunately, the vehicle was only sold for military use, primarily in Egypt.
Superlift lead engineer Kevin Dill got interested in the T1 for a few reasons, but mainly for its 116-inch wheelbase (the same as the four-door JK). Plus, it has a factory diesel and manual transmission. Following months of phone calls, Dill located a T1 through a family friend with petroleum-industry connections in Egypt. Once the vehicle was stateside, Dill stripped the Jeep to its frame in Superlift's R&D shop afterhours. To fit big tires with the lowest possible center of gravity, he used an AEV Highline front clip/fenders and an AEV Brute top. A Daystar 1-inch body lift was cut in half to help with tunnel clearances.

Jeep To Build Electric Wrangler?
Chrysler recently announced three electric vehicle prototypes, one of which will be produced for the 2010 model year. One of the vehicles being studied for production is an electric Wrangler Unlimited. The Jeep EV development vehicle is a range-extending electric vehicle that provides a glimpse into the future of a "Go Anywhere, Do Anything" vehicle with Jeep Wrangler capability. The Jeep EV combines the Wrangler's unmatched off-road capability with the ultimate "Tread Lightly!" mindset by providing the ability to roam the planet with much reduced impact at the same time. The Jeep EV Range-extended Electric Vehicle uses an electric motor, an advanced lithium-ion battery system, and a small gasoline engine with an integrated electric generator to produce additional energy to power the electric-drive system when needed. The 268hp electric motor generates 295 lb-ft of torque. With approximately 8 gallons of gasoline, the Jeep EV has a range of 400 miles, including 40 miles of zero fuel-consumption, zero-emissions, all-electric operation. The instant high torque of the electric-drive motor and the ability to precisely control each wheel independently results in off-road capability ideally suited for the Jeep brand, without compromising on-road driving capability and is something we have been interested in testing out for years. We only have one request: Can we call it a JkWh?
